The 24th annual Owen Sound Salmon Spectcular kicks off August 26th and runs until September 4th with 10 days of fishing, food, games, prizes and entertainment. The derby is the main fundraising event for the Sydenham Sportsmen’s Association, an organization of outdoorsmen who champion our natural enironment through conservation efforts including the construction of nesting boxes for species such as the Eastern Bluebirds, Wood Ducks and American Kestrels, the monitoring of deer yeards to collect information for management, and numerous Stream Enhancement projects. As an an award winning member of the Ontario Federation of Anglers and Hunters, the Sydenham Sportsmen’s Association also actively contributes to effors to restore the Atlantic Salmon back to Lake Ontario. All in all the Association does great work and the Salmon Spectiacular is a great way to contribute while having fun!
Every day hosts special events and entertainment under the giant Molson Tent, including Fish Fries, Kid’s Day, Loonie & Toonie Afternoon, Ladies Afternoon and Breakfast with Elvis, featuring World Champion impersonator Roy Leblanc. $150,000 in prizes is up for grabs and, for the avid angler, a Top Salmon Grand Prize of a G3 Boat Angler V172FS complete with 115hp Yamaha, G3 Custom Trailer and Scotty Electric Downriggers!
