And there certainly are plenty of options in Ontario boating! Across the next two blogs, we wanted to present the top ten best locations to visit. (In no particular order)
The Top Ontario Boating Destinations (6-10)
10 – The Rideau Canal
The Rideau Canal is one of the oldest continually-operated canals in the world and an official UNESCO World Heritage Site. This 220km waterway has 45 locks, and uncountable opportunities to stop and enjoy the scenery, the food, and the shopping. For a relaxed vacation on a river, without ever being too far from amenities, it’s perfect.
9 – Georgian Bay
The Georgian Bay is marked by its gorgeous scenery and the so-called 30,000 islands which can be found throughout. It’s especially popular among Yachtsmen. However, be wary – there are many rocks. Good charts and skillful navigation are needed!
8 – Lake Simcoe
Lake Simcoe is great for Toronto residents since it’s only about an hour’s drive away – making it perfect for weekend getaways, or even a quick afternoon off. The lake is nice, but the real draw comes from the many villages and cottages that dot its shores. They’re picturesque, and offer plenty of opportunities to stop and admire the scenery.
7 – Lake Rosseau
Lake Rosseau is noted for its historic nature, being settled early and covered in cottages dating back to the 19th Century. A cruise along its shores can feel like a journey back in time to a quieter age, and many famous figures in history have found refuge here – including comedienne Goldie Hawn, hockey star Steve Yzerman, and US President Woodrow Wilson.
6 – Muskoka Lakes
Muskoka is filled with sights to see, no matter the sights you’re interested in. From its crystal-clear waters to the spectacular mansions of its wealthier residents, there’s something at Muskoka for everyone. It even features the oldest passenger steamship in North America.
