The annual Orillia Perch Festival kicked off on April 16th and runs to May 7th, hosted by the Orillia Chamber of Commerce and the Orillia Fish & Game Conservation Club. Particpants head out on Lakes Simcoe and Couchiching to test their skill in the pursuit of over 60 tagged perch worth $500 each and two bonus perch worth $3000 each. Thousands of dollars in daily, weekly and grand prize draws are up for grabs.
A major focus of the festival is the Live Release Program, run by the Orillia Fish & Game Conservation Club. In order to qualify for the prizes and draws, each fisherman must enter a live, unharmed perch to the live release tank where the volunteers inspect it to make sure it’s healthy for release. The perch are released back into the lake multiple times a day, ensuring the perch population continues to thrive.
This is a great event for the avid fisherman and families alike. If you’re interested check out the link below.
