For the third year Aviva Canada has launched the Aviva Community Fund, a competitition where local initiatives compete for project funding. The purpose? Positive change in Canada’s local communities. We’ve joined forces with The Blue Frog Cafe & Marketplace in Alliston, Ontario to create a buzz for a very special project.
The Blue Frog Cafe was created, designed and developed by youth in South Simcoe to provide a space for young people to socialize, express their talents and creativity, get involved with local youth events and actively contribute to their community. The Cafe is operated by youth volunteers who serve a fresh menu of locally grown, homemade food. But it’s more than a Cafe! It offers youth entrepreneurs a space to showcase and sell their goods while accessing support to start their own businesses, a venue for local youth musicians to perform, a place for special events like youth-driven arts festivals, and community events like Wear Pink! Day to support diversity and stop discrimination and bullying. While doing all of this the young people are getting ‘real-world’ work experience and developing the skills they need to make their mark on the world in these tough economic times.
Proposed garden site. The land has been dontated. They just need the funding!
The Blue Frog’s latest vission? To create a Fresh Food Garden where young people can come together to grow and harvest vegetables to be used in the Cafe for fresh, nuturious and inexpensive menu items. We are hoping that the Aviva Community Fund will provide the funding necessary to help these great kids because this really is a unique and fantastic initiative.
