July 7 – July 15 is Family Fishing Week! This is a special time of year, designated by the Ontario Government, when Canadian residents are not required to hold a valid fishing license to fish Ontario waters. What a great time to try out recreational fishing! Just remember, while you don’t have to hold a license, you still have to follow all of the rules and regulations, including limts and fees, set out under the Ontario Recreational Fishing Regulations Summary, posted on the Ministry of Natural Resources website www.mnr.gov.on.ca or available for pick up at Service Ontario Centres or anywhere where fishing licenses are sold.
Events are held across the province to celebrate the week and introduce first timers and even experienced anglers to the fun of recreational fishing, and it’s importance to Ontario culture and economy.
